We participated in the "Unity is Strength" seminar organized by the Retail Promotion Centre (RPC) and Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) on 18 August 2001. This seminar was specially organized for small retailers particularly those operating in the HDB neighbourhood. In the recent years, shopping centers with bigger players and retailers are seen sprouting up almost everywhere in the neighbourhood. This has nonetheless impact on the businesses of the smaller retailers even though they have been around for many years. Staying competitive is increasingly important for the small retailers.

It was encouraging for us to see so many small retailers turning up for the seminar. High on their must-do list was to find new ideas and ways that will help boost their business. Some of which are to upgrade their existing "art of merchandising" through improvement of store displays and attractive Point-of-Purchase accessories that will eventually make them stand out among the rest. Attracting potential customers into the store is all that matters and one way to do it will be to revamp the store for a whole new look.
